The new Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Resonance 3 combines a minute repetition complication with a very large date which changes in a fraction of a second with an instantaneous jump.
Two discs with the same size of the dial are used to represent the date: one for the three numerals of the teens and one for the units. A huge amounts of energy is required to activate such large discs and even more to stop them without rebounds following the instantaneous jump.
This is possible thanks to a sophisticated double cam system. The first cam accumulates energy through continuous friction over time. This arms the large lever continuously, releasing it every 24 hours onto a 31-tooth wheel. The second cam plays the role of a brake, by controlling a spring-mounted lever. This device keeps the large date discs permanently immobile, releasing them for just a fraction of a second every 24 hours to allow the instantaneous jump. To manually change the date it is sufficient to press the big crown.
The complexity of the system is hidden behind a simple silver-toned dial featuring a fine hand-crafted guilloché decoration which is framed by the classically shaped white gold Toric case whose diameter and thickness respectively are 45 mm and 14.1 mm. The applied indexes are black lacquered just like the delta-shaped hands.
The minute repeater with cathedral chime strikes the hours, quarters and minutes. The hammers and the snake-shaped gongs that circle twice around the movement are visible on the back.
The finely decorated manual winding movement, with hand-bevelled plates and bridges, beats at 18,000 vibrations per hours and offers a power reserve of 48 hours.
