L'ultimo Speake-Marin non mi aveva assolutamente convinto. Con questo si rifà decisamente. Cassa 42 mm in titanio.

The new Magister Tourbillon by Speake-Marin is immediately recognisable as a Speake-Marin timepiece with its signature sculpted heat-blued hands, Piccadilly case and fluted crown. Add to these features an eye-catching tourbillon and a finely finished movement with a platinum micro-rotor and you have a truly exclusive product.

The hand-finished tourbillon rotating at 6 o’clock is framed by its stainless steel guard. The polished tourbillon bridge is made from Durnico maraging steel, a special steel known for possessing superior strength and toughness without losing malleability. The tourbillon cage of the Magister Tourbillon reproduces the topping tool wheel motif used for the Speake-Marin logo. The one-minute rotation of the tourbillon provides an indication of the passing seconds.

Explaining the fascination exercised by the tourbillon, Peter Speake-Marin says: “The tourbillon is one of the things that I love most about watchmaking. Not because of the precision it gives to the timekeeping, but because of the animation it gives to the dial. It shows time moving in a way that a minute-repeater or a grande sonnerie, for example, won’t offer. It’s something which, for me, is extremely profound.”

The blued, sculpted hands stand out in the white lacquer, multi-level dial with elegant Roman numerals which are slightly tapered towards the centre to better follow the line of the hands. The “3Hz” frequency of the SM3 movement and the “platinum mass” of the winding rotor are referenced in the centre of the dial.

The polished titanium Piccadilly case has a diameter of 42 mm

The hand-finished movement can be admired through the display back. Speake-Marin positioned the simple geometry of the platinum micro-rotor on top of the mainspring barrel so counterbalancing the intricate complexity of the tourbillon. The automatic movement offers a power reserve of approximately 72 hours.

The rhodium-finished German silver bridges and movement plates are circular-grained with polished screw heads and countersinks.

The new Speake-Marin Magister Tourbillon will be showcased at BaselWorld 2014.
