Breaking News: The Timepiece Gentleman Saga Continues. Anthony Farrer Posts YouTube Video Admitting Wrongdoings and $5 Million USD in Debt.

Earlier last week, we started receiving text messages and calls from several watch collectors and grey dealers about a link to what allegedly had been posted by The Timepiece Gentleman aka Anthony Farrer on Reddit. The post on Reddit titled ‘Coach’s Mea Culpa’ —Latin for ‘my fault’—, explains that The Timepiece Gentleman seems to owe consigners $2 Million USD in misplaced inventory.

This is the link to the actual post on Reddit. Below please find a screenshot of the exact post we are referring to straight from Reddit.

Below is the full text that we’ve copied and pasted from that Reditt post.

It comes with a heavy heart to have to send this message, but I can no longer live behind the lies and my mistakes. This is a mass text message to each person involved and it is not an easy message to send nor will it be an easy message for you to read. I wanted to reach out to you first and explain the situation before you read about it online or on social media. You may or may not be aware that, several months ago, I lost my Richard Mille due to being out at a bar, drinking and acting careless. What you would not have known is that that one watch was not the only one lost. My bag that I misplaced contained about $2 million in inventory. Majority of which was on consignment with clients like you. I kept this hidden because I thought I could dig myself out of this whole. Up until now, I wasn’t aware that I was the problem.

Over the last year I’ve let my demons get the best of me. I am an alcoholic. I have a gambling problem. I have a spending problem. I let a little success and a little money go to my head. I think I’m invisible and the rules don’t apply to me. I would not listen to people when they tried to help me. I think I know everything.

Over the last 24 hours I’ve finally realized I was wrong. I’m my own worst enemy and I need help. I have betrayed your trust and I owe you money. I have never been willing to reach out and ask for help and that is what got me to the situation I’m facing today.

I understand the feelings or thoughts that may be going through your head right now and the only thing I have to say is I sincerely apologize for doing what I did. When I made that mistake, I did not admit it and I kept trying to cover it up by selling more inventory to pay people slowly. Today I finally realize I’m only creating a bigger hole. Until I put a stop to it and admit my fault, it’s just going to get worse. Today I want to admit to you that I owe you money for a piece or more you have had on consignment with me, but at this current moment, I do not have the money to repay it. I am not going to run and hide like a coward. I am not going to file bankruptcy and screw anyone over. I will pay you in full what I owe.

If I could ask for one favor, that would be to give me time to call each and everyone of you and talk to you personally before making any decisions or putting this message or situation out online. I understand everyone is going to immediately want to call me and get answers or a quick resolution. Please give me time to reach out to you and start the process of fixing the mess I’m in.

Again, I apologize. Sincerely, from the bottom of my heart and understand this has ruined all trust you had in me. I will call you and we can talk and I will do my best to fix this. My first step in starting is clearing my head and I’m on my way to an AA meeting for the next couple hours. Please give me time to reach out to you

    Anthony Farrer

Last week, we reached out to Anthony Farrer via text message and he did not admit nor denied writing that post on Reddit. Since then, we have had no contact with him. Then, last night Anthony Farrer posted a video on YouTube admitting his wrongdoings and well, I guess the first time he had disappeared was probably not for charity work as he had claimed.

Anthony Farrer Posts YouTube Video Admitting Wrongdoings.

At this point, we’re not sure what will happen to Anthony Farrer ‘The Timepiece Gentleman’ and the $5 Million USD he says he owes. When we published the news about his disappearance back in June of 2021, we could see the writing on the wall as Dallas is the capital of the $30K dollar millionaires.

We recommend that before you consign watches with any of the ‘newbies’ watch dealers that came out of nowhere right around the time of the pandemic and the current watch bubble, you make sure they’re for real and standup business people.

Nowadays, everyone thinks that selling watches is just like selling hotcakes. It takes a lot of experience, business acumen, and watch knowledge to be a real watch dealer. If you can’t even authenticate watches yourself and you need someone to do that for you, then you are a joke as a watch dealer.

To wrap up this editorial, we’d love to share that Anthony’s former contractors —Darby McVay and Liz Guilliams— who were in charge of video production and shipping, have just turned into watch dealers with a company named RebeLuxe LA. Go figure! We bet they know a lot about horology and the nitty-gritty stuff about watch references, watchmaking, authenticating watches, and especially spotting fake Rolex warranty cards.

Below is the video that was just published by Darby McVay —Rebe Luxe LA— trying to dissociate from The Timepiece Gentleman.

Record Omega Broad Arrow sale was part of ‘criminal activity’
Swatch Group’s Omega and Phillips say they are victims

Swiss watchmaker Omega alleged three former employees were involved in a criminal plot that resulted in the sale of a faked Speedmaster at auction for more than $3 million.

The timepiece, an Omega Speedmaster with ‘Broad Arrow’ hands from 1957, was in fact a “Frankenstein” watch, composed of an amalgam of mostly authentic parts from other vintage watches, the Biel, Switzerland-based company said in a statement in response to questions from Bloomberg.

The timepiece sold for just over 3.1 million Swiss francs ($3.3 million) through auctioneer Phillips in November of 2021, the highest price ever paid for a Speedmaster at auction. The watch was purchased by Omega itself, the company said.

The scandal underscores concerns that forgers are creating fakes or altering some vintage watches sold on the secondary market and at auction to achieve higher sale prices. Collectors will pay millions for certain watches in good condition with original parts.

A former employee of the Omega Museum and its brand heritage department was among the staffers alleged to have participated, Omega said. That ex-employee “worked in tandem with intermediaries to purchase the watch for the Omega Museum,” arguing to company executives that it “was a rare and exceptional timepiece that would be an absolute must” for Omega’s collection, the company said.

    ‘False Legacy’

But the watch was a sophisticated forgery, melding components from various timepieces as well as potentially fabricated parts, Omega alleges, adding that the former employees may have been involved in its assembly.

Omega didn’t identify the ex-staffers it claims participated in the scheme.

“Its false legacy allowed the profiteers to justify a highly inflated bid made through the intermediaries,” the watchmaker said.

The scheme was “to the massive detriment of Omega,” Chief Executive Officer Raynald Aeschlimann told Swiss newspaper NZZ, which first reported on the case and the accusations against the former employees.

An Omega spokesperson said the company doesn’t yet know who brought the watch to Phillips to sell at auction.

A spokesperson for the auction house said it hasn’t disclosed the identity of the seller due to client confidentiality rules, but would do so if asked by authorities such as the police or courts. When Phillips consigned the watch and went to Omega for information from its archives, “we were not aware of the alleged criminal activity that is now the subject of an investigation,” the spokesperson added.

The auction house obtained confirmation from Omega of the date of manufacture of the numbered movement, its serial number, the model of the watch that the movement was fitted to and the date it was sold, its spokesperson said, adding that Phillips understands that representatives of Omega saw the watch before they purchased it.

Phillips said it’s committed to the “highest standards and due diligence levels in the watch market,” and that the item in question had been viewed by collectors, scholars and experts and traveled to London, Singapore, Hong Kong, and New York before it was auctioned in Geneva.

“If, having reviewed the evidence, we think there are grounds for criminal prosecution then we will have no hesitation in referring the matter to the authorities to prosecute,” the Phillips spokesperson said.

Best known for its Speedmaster and Seamaster models, Omega is the third-largest Swiss watchmaker by revenue with sales of about 2.47 billion francs in 2022, according to Morgan Stanley estimates.

The brand is part of Swatch Group AG and generates about half of the company’s overall watch sales, Morgan Stanley has said.
